Formation of the Union

“Days were passing by in LBS Institute of Technology for Women, as it always used to. Things were much ‘less and less’ like any other college. And students were doing nothing other than, studying, worrying about the assignments, projects, rough record to complete, programs experiments and other lab works to do, and complaining about all the things in the college other than trying to do something to change the normal routines...
‘Normal days’ passed as always… That’s when in one June morning things began to change.
Students of LBS came to college one Monday morning witnessing something that has not yet been done in this college. Stepping in, they saw a few posters on the wall. And obviously they were interested to see what is it there which is not just any boring black and white notices. And it turned out to be some election campaign posters for all the candidates…
Soon, some flux was unleashed in the college showing all the candidates… Class split by, five classes – respective candidates for each of the post…
For the first time LBS college was in the true spirit of an election.
Campaigns, talks, posters, election manifesto and even online campaigning through Facebook.
And after a week which seemed as if a year the day came…
 The elections…
Then the impatient moments of counting the votes….
And then the results…
Thus formed our union – Union 2010-11”

And we believe the selected ones are most capable to keep on doing things that will give the students of LBS days such as that June Monday morning – things which they have not yet seen in LBS, things that will bring a change, things that will awake, arise and aspire LBS…; and we will make sure they voted for deeds not words.
The Union 2011-12 are…
Chairperson – Sreelekshmi J. (S7 CSE2)
Talking about Sreelekshmi, the words that come to mind at once are dedicated and sincere. And also a very intelligent and mature, yet at the same time a very lovable and friendly personality. An immediate urge to do something for the college flow through her veins visibly. And the main quality is that she can even make Mark Antony lose if started a speech (this may come useful for a CP).
Vice Chairperson – Aneeja A. Rasheed (S7 CSE1)
Willingness to be involved in whatever happening around her is the best quality. An active participant of NSS in the college. Sincere and prime… Always ready to whatever it takes to bring the best to our college, but also at the same time as an NSS member, looks forward to bring out betterment to humanity in general.
General Secretary – Vidhya R. (S7 CSE2)
Vidya’s synonym can be ‘active’. From the day I joined college I have never seen Vidhya sit somewhere and do nothing. She is fun, talkative and kind of a bubbly girl. Well, students of LBS may have already understood that by her Mock Press ‘Sheela’ performance. She is quiet a celebrity after that. And as  GS, I think she will rock.
Arts Club secretary – G. Rajalekshmi (S7 CSE1)
If you had been in LBS for long, you could see this slim beautiful girl in almost all the dance events that has been held in the LBS campus for the past four years. A great dancer and a great personality. She is not only experienced but also keeps a really good potential to make our ‘Yagna-Dhruva’ Rocking (Ya, I know, that is what you are looking forward mostly from us).
Sports Club secretary – C. Lekshmi (S7 CSE1)
Member of the college basketball team and a good sportsperson. But the main thing about her is that she actually wants to make much more possibilities for LBS in the area of Sports. In our college were even half the students sit at home during a sports day, Lekshmi actually wants to make that event grand and compel all of us to stop being lazy and come and enjoy each moment of a sports day or a basketball match. Well, let’s show the other mixed college that girls can be good at sports too…
CS/IT association secretary – Nayana A. R. (S7 CSE2)
‘Kerala University Topper’. Well this was the phrase repeated in each campaign about Nayana during the campaign. But this is not what makes her eligible. We told that she is technically very brilliant. But to sit out a simple example I have to tell a simple day today situation happening in our life in simple words – in lab, if is having a problem with a program, all the 67 student of our class turn to Nayana. That’s our Nayana.
EC/AE association secretary – Latha G. (S7 AEE)
I have never seen her sit inside the class room. Ya, I haven’t. Since always she is been running around the college for this and that. And she was always an active volunteer and a helper for the formal Union members. So in that sense she know exactly the possible problems that can occur, and also has a very inside knowledge of last years’ union. (Anyone want to know what actually happened , why and how the flaws occurred – Ask her.)
Fourth Year representative – Sreedhanya M. Unnithan (S7 ECE)
Remember her ‘meet the candidate speech’? She is fun and friendly like that. And for a rep. the most important quality should be approachable. And if one is friendly then is there an issue called ‘can’t approach’. So just go and deal all your final year problems with her.
Third year representative – Jain Gorge Thomas (S5 ECE)
Running around for the IV arrangements from the day we took oath. Do we need a better description for a third year rep.? Her hard work for arrange that event - IV (which will be the most memorable 5-6 days of your life for sure; even if you are going to forget everything about this college, you will certainly remember your IV)-for her friends describe her without words. Deeds overpower words you know.
Second Year representative – Nisha A. (S3 CSE1)
Never seen anyone any more enthusiastic as this girl. Always so happy and energetic. And it shows that she is so excited to join the union. And of course, if one is excited he/she is bound to bring out something good, something great from it. Enjoying even the greatest hard work is the quality that everyone should have. And I Nisha I certainly see that spark.
Magazine Editor – Poorna S. G. (S7 CSE2)
And at last I have to talk a about myself.( Alas… I have no option but to say some good words about myself. Don’t misjudge as boasting ok… ) Well, I like to write a lot. That’s the one and only thing that I do the best – write some stories and all. Well you know they say in my class that when all are having fun I will be writing something. Or reading something. So they all thought I could be used well as a magazine editor. And I guess I did too…(Ok, enough of the boasting.)

So this 11 are the college union 2011-12.
At our oath taking ceremony our Principlal Mini ma’am said one thing – ‘even though you are 11, you should be 1’. And we just have to say that… well we had our first few union meetings, ( in our old tattered canteen and once on floor of the pathway to the backdoor of main building, and a few in that old union room which is yet to be decorated); and we ourselves were so astounded how we 11 think alike in almost all the subject and bring up brilliant ideas to make the life at LBS much more enjoyable and totally rocking.
